Tashi delek, thank you for visiting, welcome and I hope this finds you in peace and serenity. We have investigated the timeframe between 12 and 15 October 2277 to see what significant developments took place. In the last update I brought the news Helios P Stephem confessed to Dan Dane he already started the process of Martian terraformation without the agreement of the Global Nations (GN). He assured Dan Dane not too much progress was made and asked if Dane could propose to the GN terraformation of Mars as an option for the human race as the comet Carpenter Choo continues its journey to Earth.

Eric Carpenter, of Stephem Enterprises is now working with Extra Terrestrial Threats team at JÖRD, which is headed by Juan Lopez and has suggested ways JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises can collaborate to counter the threat of the comet Carpenter Choo. Some of the suggestions are:

• Use of SolAd Technology. Eric has suggested a number of these wide banners can be placed in the Comet’s path. Made of mylar they are sufficiently strong to snare it, slow its journey and possibly bring it to a halt. 

• Curved Mirrors. The placement in space via POLAR of elements which when assembled result in a huge curved mirror whose curvature can focus the Sun’s rays at a focal point which is occupied by Carpenter Choo. This requires extreme precision as the target is moving at 370,000 mph or 103 miles per second. The entire structure will need to match speed and course.

• Manned and unmanned intercept missions.

Eric has asked Magnus Helgarson the head of POLAR launch operations at JÖRD for the launch and deployment schedule over the next 10 months to plan intercept missions and to include contingency. These and other options were discussed during the GN meeting which took place on 16 October. We will access the transcript of this meeting and include it in our next update, separate to this.

The global reaction to this threat during these early days were restrained and although people knew there was a potential threat to the Earth, daily lives continued. One thing did focus attention and it was the SolAds in orbit. They counted down the predicted time to impact, to the second, but as there was still over a year to go, the general public thought was time was in abundance. Global markets too seemed to be quite healthy and commerce continued as before at this early stage.

At this time NewsReal announced plans to transmit a weekly report on the comet and its progress, to be delivered by Anthony John and include global reactions and steps being taken to deal with the threat. We will include these in our updates where important items and points have been mentioned. As an introduction to these weekly transmissions a special was broadcast on 15 October from the main lunar based site for Stephem Enterprises located in the Torricelli plains, just south of the 1 square mile protected exclusion zone which marks the first Apollo moon landing site 308 years ago by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, while the Command Module pilot Mike Collins orbited above. The Sea of Tranquility area also houses the JÖRD lunar base at which a meeting between Stephem Enterprises and JÖRD was scheduled a day after this transmission.

We have obtained the original transmission from 15 October of the first of these specially transmitted NewsReal programmes, delivered by Anthony John. Below is a transcript of the important points:

Anthony John – “Hello everyone. Thanks for watching. This special programme marks the start of a series of weekly half hour programmes I will bring you as the comet Carpenter Choo makes its way to Earth. We will bring you the latest news, views and special guests. Also please feel free to contribute and I’ll do all I can to mention you. We’re here today at the Armstrong Complex based at the Sea of Tranquility, the first manned lunar landing site three centuries ago. We’re honoured to be the guests of Helios P Stephem at his Lunar headquarters for Stephem Enterprises. And shortly, we’re going to suit up and make our way over to his very own ship, the Herphomos, which is nearing completion and will transport people to Mars. Helios, thanks for inviting us. It’s great to be here.”

Helios P Stephem – “Anthony, welcome and it’s a pleasure to have you. Yes, this complex is one of seven we have on the moon and if you look out of the window you can make out the construction facility for the Herphomos in the distance. There are also two other sister ships under construction the Phobos and the Deimos. The name for the Herphomos was taken from Hermes, the winged messenger of the Greek Gods, Phobos and Deimos, the two moons of Mars. Her two sister ships are named after the moons of Mars. And in the foreground we can see the historical sight where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the moon. I remember that day well – by that I mean I can remember the many reports written about that historical day, as do most of us.”

Anthony John – “Yes Helios, truly historical. I suppose back in the second half of the 20th century we as a race believed we were invincible especially after walking on the moon. Little did we know about the future threats we faced here on Earth and even more ironic, they were created by us; near destruction of the planet, continued injustice and other such selfish behaviour. Luckily we reached a level of enlightenment and fixed those problems. But now we face a new threat from deep in our Solar System.” 

Helios P Stephem – “Yes Anthony. Once again we find ourselves faced with a threat which could quite possibly determine our continued existence. I know it’s only been a few weeks, but from a journalistic point of view how is the discovery of the Comet Carpenter Choo being treated globally?”

Anthony John – “Well it’s really capturing the public’s imagination. People contact me saying this whole thing is bringing some communities closer together. Neighbours are being, well, neighbourly again. There has been some criticism surrounding your SolAds and the constant countdown until it gets here. What do you have to say to those people?”

Helios P Stephem – “Well Anthony, in a way they’re right. I changed the displays to make sure we all realise this thing isn’t going away. Every second is accounted for. Every second Carpenter Choo travels 103 miles closer to Earth and doesn’t seem to have any intention of slowing down or changing direction. As you and everyone know I have many businesses within Stephem Enterprises who can work with JÖRD and the GN to make sure we make an early start in counteracting this threat, whatever its intentions. As you know Eric Carpenter, one of the discovers of Carpenter Choo has joined Stephem Enterprises and is working with JÖRD to make sure we present the viable options to deal with the comet. He and I will be present here at Armstrong Base for the meeting tomorrow with JÖRD to give the various ideas we have and decide the best action or actions we can take.”

Anthony John – “Which leads us nicely onto the next thing. The Herphomos. Tell us a bit about this ship.”

Helios P Stephem – “Well this and her sister ships are self funded ventures and are IP4 Class ships.”

Anthony John – “For those who aren’t familiar, please explain what IP4 Class is.”

Helios P Stephem – “Well there are two classes of manned spacecraft for use in our solar system. IP4 and OP4 are performance categories, the main difference being the top speeds and the onboard sensing and surveillance equipment required for the rocky, gas and ice planets. IP stands for Inner Planets and OP Outer Planets. IP4 craft cannot be operated beyond Mars as they’re just not up to the job. Although I am constructing the Herphomos for trips to Mars, I still require the operational certificates and permits from JÖRD, as they are the governing body of space and its planets within our solar system. Let’s get suited up and go visit the Herphomos as it nears completion.”

Anthony John – “Sounds Great.”

Thich Hanh Tu – The programme stops at this point as Stephem and Anthony John suit up for their short trip by lunar excursion buggy to the Herphomos construction pad. We join them again:

Helios P Stephem – “Well here we are on the flight deck and I have to say, this thing is ridiculously easy to fly. We’re in a shirt sleeve environment and this part of the ship now has fully operational environmental controls, which is why we can both stand here without our space suits. The flight deck is the latest in spaceflight technology, 3DVR, MIND and learning neural networks. A stellarnaut sitting at the controls has the universe at their fingertips.”

Anthony John – “What’s something like this like to fly using MIND?”

Helios P Stephem – “Oh Anthony, I have never used MIND in all my years of flying. I prefer the old fashioned method of dead reckoning and by the seat of your pants. Being hooked up to these probes and sensors isn’t my idea of fun. I’ll leave that type of flying to my stellarnauts. I’m sure MIND fries the brain a little each time.”

Anthony John – “Ha. I don’t blame you Helios. But as we’re on the flight deck maybe you can explain how it works please. I can’t see any real instruments or controls. Just these seats in the middle in a spherical room with dull metal walls. How can this huge spacecraft be controlled from here?”

Helios P Stephem – “Technology Anthony. It’s all done by technology, computers, neural learning networks, 3DVR, MIND, teslators and GRAVI-T. The stellarnaut flies, but is connected to the systems, avionics, critical flight and power controls via the MIND interface. You can see why only the most experienced and top stellarnauts are chosen to fly spacecraft such as this.”

Anthony John – “A silly question, but how can they possibly stay connected at all times? Once they disconnect for whatever reason, won’t the spacecraft go out of control?”

Helios P Stephem – “No. These ships are multi crew and have various safety features and redundancy built in. We also have control centres at various points in the solar system to monitor and take control if needed.”

Anthony John – “That’s a relief.”

Helios P Stephem – “Take the seat and I’ll show you something amazing. Strap yourself in.”

Anthony John – “Wow. That is amazing.”

Thich Hanh Tu – From the footage, Stephem activated the full flight deck environment and Anthony John was surrounded completely by the view from outside, with flight instruments generated around him by 3DVR graphics. This does seem a bit strange as the superimposed display makes Stephem seem to float in the vacuum over the lunar surface above the construction platform and surrounded by the frantic movement of lunar activity.

Helios P Stephem – “With the correct commands you can now take off from the lunar surface and fly to anywhere within the orbits of the first four planets of our solar system.”

Anthony John – “Wow. Helios, yes, it is amazing and I certainly hope JÖRD and the GN agree to your plans for terraformation if Carpenter Choo continues on its path towards Earth. Dear reader this transmission attracted billions of viewers and the public was now starting to take notice of this threat. And it seemed the majority were willing Stephem to provide a means of escape to a newly terraformed Mars, or (M)Earth as he has renamed it.

Messages were being sent to JÖRD and the GN demanding they allow Stephem to continue his terraformation of Mars so the human race had a chance to survive. The events of this day which you have just read occurred on 15 October 2277. The next day, 16 October 2277 was an important day as it was the day of the meeting at Armstrong Base between Stephem Enterprises and JÖRD to discuss options available for dealing with Carpenter Choo. We will bring you that important update shortly.

Tashi delek, thank you for visiting, welcome and I hope this finds you in peace and serenity. As we try to piece together the truth behind the comet Carpenter Choo, we have gone back to its discovery and are investigating all the events which took place up to our present time of February 2278 to try and find out why things aren’t as they seem with this comet. Our present time of February 2278 is a tipping point in human existence, but before I explain why this is, my monks and I have to explain to you all which has occurred  up to this point. Our journey has brought us to 6 October 2277. To help keep track on the passing of time, I will include vital data on the comet’s progress at the top of this and every update going forward.

As we go forward, 6 October 2277 is a very interesting day in our research. This is the day when Helios P Stephem met Daniel Dane, the President of the GN (Global Nations), alone. The GN President is elected by other members and has influence on the dealings and activities of the GN during their four year term in office. They met in the Oval Office situated in the historical White House, which is Dane’s official residence, when not at GN headquarters. 

It seems we missed the beginning of the conversation. All conversations involving GN members, particularly the President should be automatically recorded from the beginning. But the start was missed which may be down to a number of factors including technology such as recording equipment and microphones out of range. We do believe the conversation was focussed on Stephem’s plans to terraform Mars now Carpenter Choo is definitely on its way to Earth. What we have recovered is included in this update as a transcript.

President Dane – “Helios, they won’t let you do it, without exploring all the options. Only after the options have been explored and exhausted will they agree to entertain your suggestion. But agreeing it is a different matter.”

Helios P Stephem – “Dan. It’s been two weeks since it left the Kuiper Belt. It has travelled 125 million miles. It’s 125 million miles closer to Earth. Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo have studied its path and there is now a general agreement this thing is heading towards Earth. Its path is constantly altering to maintain that collision course. Surely this looks to you like a collision course which will need us to take some type of action?”

President Dane – “I agree Helios. But I cannot unilaterally make a decision to go and totally change the face of Mars, with the hope – I don’t mean it that way – this thing will eventually crash into the Earth, You know what I mean, don’t you? I can see what you’re offering the world but it’s up to every nation to vote and for there to be a consensus before we take such a drastic step.” (Thich Hanh Tu – while listening at this point, we could hear the President’s frustration with Stephem)

Helios P Stephem – “Yes, Mr President, I know.”

President Dane – “Besides, it would take decades to terraform Mars with current technology and resources and we haven’t started.”

Helios P Stephem – “Umm, well Mr err President that’s not strictly true.”

President Dane – “Please tell me it’s the decades bit that’s wrong and not the ‘we haven’t started yet’ bit, Helios.” (Thich Hanh Tu – we could sense desperation in the President’s voice)

Helios P Stephem – “Well the decades bit is wrong – don’t look too relieved yet. The other bit is also wrong.”

President Dane – “I knew it! I want to know everything you’ve been up to.”

Helios P Stephem – “I’ve been gradually raising the surface temperature for a while now, which does constitute terraforming. We have also been working on raising the oxygen level too. Oh, and it will take a lot less time to complete the terraformation.”

President Dane – “Why am I not surprised? I knew you would do something like this, against all treaties and agreements. Explain to me what you have done.”

Helios P Stephem – “Well, we discovered this by accident, during one of our survey missions on Olympus Mons. There is a large amount of pumice stone in the region and just like here on Earth, Martian pumice has a high level of porosity, number of holes, which allows the ambient atmosphere to infuse at a very high concentration due the incredibly high surface area of pumice. Just by accident, we needed to clear a path and one of our rovers used its laser to make a path and we discovered this one action split the carbon dioxide and extracted oxygen. We took the process further and created a barometric pressure chamber environment which contained large amounts of pumice. We pumped in carbon dioxide at a very high pressure and began firing the mixture with lasers and to our surprise created oxygen. We have been doing this for a while and gradually replacing the CO2 with oxygen and the results are very encouraging.”

President Dane – “Damn, Helios, that’s incredibly clever, but why haven’t you told anyone?”

Helios P Stephem – “Because it’s my process and I don’t want anyone to copy it, before it’s fully protected. It’s called MARS – the Mars Atmospheric Reclamation System.”

President Dane – “MARS. You and your damned fractal acronyms. So what happens to all the blitzed pumice stone?”

Helios P Stephem – “Well that’s a beauty of the process. We have reduced the power of the laser so it still does the job but keeps the rock intact. There’s no wastage and the pumice is reused over and over.”

President Dane – “And now you’ve told me, I’m an accomplice. You’ve got it all worked out haven’t you, Helios?”

Helios P Stephem – “No, not at all Dan. I didn’t expect this comet to drop in and say ‘hi’. But we’re lucky it did, in a way. Surely my work can be harnessed?”

President Dane – “Why did you start to terraform Mars against all the treaties we have in place?. You didn’t know this comet was on its way.”

Helios P Stephem – “Dan, I’m the richest man in the history of the planet, I need challenges; something to strive for. I have done just about everything else on this planet there is to do. This seemed like a challenge, not just the terraformation, but how I announce it to the world. It looks like the comet did that for me. You know you’ll have to work on the GN delegates. Get them to approve terraforming. They will never have to know terraformation has begun. Even if they did, they should be grateful I seized the initiative and we are ahead of this thing. You know, if the human race is split between two planets there is almost zero chance of extinction. For continued existence we must be a spacefaring race and I believe we have started this evolution with LunarLab.”

President Dane – “Or they could think it’s all been staged.”

Helios P Stephem – “Yes Dan. I journeyed to the Kuiper Belt, grabbed this comet and told it to travel to Earth. It’s intelligent, you know.” (Thich Hanh Tu – They both laugh at this point and Stephem continues) – “Terraformation is just a contingency. Hopefully, we never have to consider the relocation of the population.”

President Dane – “Helios, what if we do need to colonise Mars?” (Thich Han Tu – They both return to a serious tone of conversation)

Helios P Stephem – “Terraformation and colonisation of Mars. The thought has crossed my mind on various occasions, Dan. We have looked at the options. There are three. One, do nothing, accept the consequences. We could possibly go the way of the Dinosaurs. Two, try and change its path. It’s better to try this sooner rather than later. Third, blow it out of space, although the goody two shoes scientists tell me this could be bad for two reasons. One, ethics and two, once blown up we could have millions of little comets travelling to Earth after the explosion, assuming each of those parts continue on their curved paths. I had a meeting last week with Juan’s team. They haven’t arrived at any decision on viable options yet. But I think the deflection approach may be their preference. The trouble is this thing will still be loose in space after deflection, with every chance it may return to its path, heading straight for Earth. So Dan, why don’t we try and get the GN to approve the terraformation of Mars as an option, while other avenues can be tried, such as deflection and interception?”

President Dane – “I can see your point, Helios, but how can I influence the decision, while avoiding their anger at your actions on Mars?”

Helios P Stephem – “I’ve given that plenty of thought, Dan. This world is far from ideal. True, we have come a long way since the 20th and 21st centuries. We no longer ravage the Earth for our benefit. The trend of planetary destruction has been reversed. The world is beginning to heal itself, but very slowly. The global population has now reached 9 billion. Our land masses have decreased and fertile land is at a premium. We are finding it very difficult to sustain life here on Earth. Although we are the most technologically advanced we have ever been as a race, think of the human tragedy which has accompanied that evolution. We now have millions of displaced families. Land which was borrowed by corrupt governments of developing nations to, in their words, grow crops for the growing global population. We know what was really going on and although a stop has been put to it, the ripples are still cascading through humanity. Luckily, we in the West regained world dominance. Had we not stopped the uncontrolled explosion from the East and the developing nations with all their corruption, I’m sure we would have been finished. Dan, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. We don’t know what Carpenter Choo really is, but it may be the catalyst which brings us as a race closer together, not to mention a fully terraformed refuge, to which we can escape at any time.”

President Dane – “A lottery system has been mentioned as we cannot accommodate 9 billion people on Mars – or (M)Earth. What will happen if we need to resort to a lottery system if the threat becomes significant? Do you know what that will do to global relations Helios? How do you control 9 billion people all suffering from mass hysteria? We would normally rely on law enforcement. That’s usually not a problem and if it is, we bring in the army. You have to realise law enforcement, the army, the navy everyone will be subsets in that global group suffering from panic and mass hysteria. What do you do when the very people on whom we rely to maintain law and order then become looters and murderers? You see Helios, these people have families as well. They want the best for their children and spouses, their parents, brothers and sisters. What do you tell a mother who has been assessed and as she possesses valuable skills as a surgeon, she has been ordered to report to a POLAR facility to start a journey to Mars, but she must leave behind her husband who is a flight instructor and baby who has been diagnosed with an insignificant illness, which will make them ineligible for relocation? It’s not a black and white world, Helios. We’re dealing with people here; with real lives. What do you think that mother and wife, not surgeon, mother and wife, will be thinking as she makes the two day ascent? We’re not talking a five minute blast into orbit. She won’t be thinking how pretty everything is below her. She’ll be thinking of her husband and child down on the surface. She’ll maybe catch a glimpse of your ingenious SolAd and realise they only have a few weeks to live. Why are most of them showing a countdown clock Helios? Why can’t they still show advertisements? What’s your obsession? While you’re not advertising you’re losing money. Anyway, she has to move to a new world and fight to keep people alive, in line with her Hippocratic Oath, knowing the people who gave her a reason for living will soon be decomposing bodies on the Earth’s surface, being eaten by scavenging animals and insects, which survived the comet’s impact. Who’ll bury them Helios? Nobody.

How lonely do you think that ascent will be for her, despite that fact she will be surrounded by thousands of ‘lucky’ lottery winners? Her mind wonders. She remembers the first time she met her husband, when their eyes met. She remembers the first time they kissed, the first time they made love. She remembers hearing the news that she was finally pregnant. Their perseverance paid off and finally she was pregnant. She carried the baby for nine months, becoming more paranoid for its safety as every day passes. Every night before she goes to bed she says a silent prayer, thanking God for not taking her baby that day, begging to keep her baby tomorrow. This ritual continues through the pregnancy. Then the nine months are up, she gives birth and there they have their bundle of joy. Everything is perfect. 

She remembers the nights she stayed up with her baby daughter as she fought off the routine, but unpleasant ailments; how she would fall asleep with her baby in her arms. In the morning, her husband would come into the room and look at his two princesses, cover them up and tiptoe out of the house on his way to work. These are real people Helios.”

Helios P Stephem – “But Dan, how do you know that’s going to happen?”

President Dane – “Read this” (Thich Hanh Tu – The President opened a message he received the previous day from the woman in his scenario).  “There are idiots putting self assessment apps online and this lady, just happened to complete one and this message is the result. You haven’t answered my question about your SolAds.”

Helios P Stephem – “Dan, you can’t control this. You cannot make their pain yours. It’s not right. Do you realise what that could do to you? You won’t survive. It’s true that it’s sad, but that’s life. We had disasters throughout time. Do you grieve for victims of earthquakes, floods or hurricanes. Do you become part of their lives? Do you mourn with them? Well?”

President Dane – “No.”

Helios P Stephem – “Exactly. Of course not. And why not? Because you’re human, too. Do you think that woman in the message or anyone else would care about your losses? Of course not. Rather you than them, I bet. You have to think of Number One, Dan – yourself. You have family too. Should you not think about what you would do to guarantee their safety and wellbeing too?”

President Dane – “I can see your point of view, Helios. Let’s hope it will never come to that.”

Helios P Stephem – “Dan, the other day I was asking about your campaign?”

President Dane – “Give me a break, Helios.” (Thich Hanh Tu – The President seemed irritated at this statement from Stephem)

Helios P Stephem – “Well, I may have a solution for you and funnily enough, it fits in with this comet.”

President Dane – “Go on then.”

Helios P Stephem – “This approach will have two benefits, at home and internationally. I think we’re agreed this situation could end in a very bleak future for the Earth. Correct?”

President Dane – “Correct.”

Helios P Stephem – “Forget the involvement of the GN and JÖRD for a moment. Don’t you think we should be doing all we can to mitigate the consequences of this entity?”

President Dane – “I suppose so.”

Helios P Stephem – “As you now know, I have begun the initial processes which will result in the terraformation of Mars. I know you need to gain public support. As I said before, we’re living in a world littered with disparity, when it comes to rich and poor. The number of homeless is an issue, making up a proportion of our population and internationally too. Now I’m not saying you can solve the global problem, but you can make a considerable dent in the national homeless numbers and abroad too.”

President Dane – “I’m interested, Helios. Tell me more.” (Thich Han Tu – we could hear the interest in the President’s voice at this point)

Helios P Stephem – “My third phase of Project (M)Earth will require a lot of construction and easy but important jobs. These may not be fulfilled with our current workforce. I don’t see why you cannot make use of this resource by allocating them to me. I’ll find meaningful employment for them. Additionally, they will stop the financial drain on the nation. You will be seen as a politician who is finally solving a situation by providing the solution to another. I think you will eventually be regarded as a forward thinking leader whose example and social reform model will be replicated around the world.”

President Dane – “Helios, that’s genius. Absolute freaking genius. Do you want a job on my campaign team? I bet once word of this initiative becomes known, every tramp will want a piece of the action. Hang on. How do we locate enough of them to start making a difference? They’ve dropped off the radar. They don’t want to be found.”

Helios P Stephem – “The CHIPs don’t lie, Dan.”

President Dane – “You’re right Helios, CHIPs. Why didn’t I think of that?”
(Thich Hanh Tu – The President’s elation ended abruptly) –  President Dane – “What if they don’t want to be a part of society again, Helios? You know they have left it for a reason, don’t you?”

Helios P Stephem – “They will, Mr President.”

President Dane – “I don’t want a modern day Press Gang on my hands, Helios.”

Helios P Stephem – “Leave it with me, Dan. The fact you are taking homeless people off the streets will be sufficient. Other details and arrangements are not important. Agreed?”

President Dane – “Agreed.”

Helios P Stephem – “I’ll need you to raise the issue of terraforming at the next GN meeting. When is it?”

President Dane – “In four days. We’ve had to call an impromptu meeting to discuss the comet. I think I can eloquently state the case; even if it is just a contingency.”

Helios P Stephem – “Thanks, Dan.”

President Dane – “Helios. I have never thanked you for all you do for me and this great nation of ours. We’re all in your debt. You have proven to be a loyal and trustworthy friend and business associate. You manage to remain focussed when those around you seem to lose theirs.”

Helios P Stephem – “Not a problem, Dan. Thanks for your help as well. With your sanction, I hope we can start to build a refuge on Mars.”

President Dane – “Don’t you mean (M)Earth?”

Helios P Stephem – “Exactly.”

We had to listen to this conversation a few times to fully take in what was said. Both of these men are ambitious, but is it achieved to the detriment of others? Their motives are selfish in the short term, but does the success of each man then benefit all mankind? This is a point we discussed for a while and are still not entirely sure. We will need to wait and see how this threat from space plays out and what effect each of these men’s actions have on the human race. The actions of Stephem to begin terraforming Mars we think shows a disregard for rules and regulations, but his willingness to use the planet as a refuge in the face of the threat shows a level of compassion.

The referral to the homeless by the President as ‘tramps’ was disappointing to hear, but we cannot judge his motives just yet as he is under extreme pressure and this was said during a private conversation. Also Stephem’s insulting comments regarding the East and developing nations is definitely opposite to the face he shows the world. They mentioned the use of chips, which I have been informed by my learned brothers are tiny devices placed in thousands of food items, almost like additives. Their function is to pass through the human body, gather and transmit data which is transmitted to the host’s Doctor or medical companies for realtime health status updates and early diagnosis of illness. These will be explained in the additional information section of this site.

According to the president, meetings were scheduled soon after this conversation with Stephem and we will investigate those and update you. We will also continue to monitor the unauthorised terraformation of Mars, the actions of Helios P Stephem and Stephem Enterprises. Our search for the truth and to bring it to you continues.

As you know my fellow monks and I are researching past events in an attempt to discover the truth behind Project (M)Earth and the comet named Carpenter Choo which is now on its way to Earth. This update relates what we have learned of events dating back to 01 October 2277, just after Eric Carpenter joined Stephem Enterprises to help investigate the comet and its odd behaviour.

Eric Carpenter joined Stephem Enterprises on 01 October 2277 and immediately built relationships with people who could help deal with the new threat speeding towards the Earth at 370,000mph. Working with Helios P Stephem gave him access to some of the most influential people and once they knew of his relationship with Stephem were very eager to make themselves available and help the cause. On 3 October, a meeting was held between JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises using the 3DVR capability for those not able to attend in person. The main purpose was to agree the object’s path, its threat potential and the agreed preferred course of action. This was Eric’s first meeting with JÖRD and listening to the recordings we can tell he was nervous at the start, but then seems to build in confidence. We know his dealings with JÖRD years ago greatly affected him in a negative way. But this is different as everyone can now see the threat approaching Earth. His previous dealing led to ridicule. The planet he though he discovered proved to be an error in his observations and calculations. We have been able to retrieve a transcript of the meeting which was held on 3 October 2277 and have included parts of it below in this update.

Juan Lopez – “Thanks for joining our meeting everyone. To clarify, this initial meeting has been called between JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises. Some of you are appearing via 3DVR and the rest of you are at Stephem Enterprises and JÖRD headquarters. Helios are you there?”

Helios P Stephem – “Hi guys. I’m here.”
(Thich Hanh Tu – Stephem seemed particularly jovial despite the circumstances of the meeting).

Juan Lopez –  “It’s been nearly three weeks since this comet, now called Carpenter Choo was discovered. Within a matter of hours after discovery, the body left the Kuiper Belt and for some reason began a journey on Sunday 23 September 2277, which when we projected the path placed it directly on a collision course with Earth. This is a comet, but with a difference. Many people are suggesting this has a level of intelligence which is unheard of. Its speed was 370,000mph, which has remained constant. Using this data we can predict from this day, 3 October 2277, Carpenter Choo will arrive on Earth 1 Year, 3 Months and 12 Days, on Wednesday, 15 January 2279.”

Helios P Stephem – “Juan, can you confirm the reports of this thing making slight adjustments to speed and heading?”

Juan Lopez – “Hi Helios. Yes, there have been very slight, almost infinitesimal changes to those two parameters. And yes, each of those changes ensures it stays on a collision course with Earth. Let me welcome Eric Carpenter to the team. I think you’ll all agree we are lucky to have such a good scientist and astronomer with us. Also, as one of the discoverers of the comet Carpenter Choo, he has a very strong link with it. He’s been brought in by Helios, who will now explain Eric’s role. Helios, over to you.”

Helios P Stephen – “Yes. Thanks Juan. Eric will be fulfilling a very important role. This threat, which seems to have appeared from nowhere has attracted unprecedented attention. But looking at the early stages of its trajectory, there seems to be a definite threat to the Earth and it’s our job to assess this and make recommendations to JÖRD, the GN and Governments around the world. Eric, over to you.”

Eric Carpenter – “Thanks Helios. Glad to be here. Well, since the discovery of this comet, public interest has grown greatly, as have the rumours and speculation. As scientists, it’s our job to analyse the threat and then take appropriate action. So far, the viable options we have are do nothing and allow it to approach the Earth. Secondly, try to intercept, communicate and maybe deflect it. The final option conflicts with our duties as scientists, destroy it. The only problem with the last option is we’ll then have a multitude of fragments threatening the Earth, which will be nearly impossible to control. One thing which seems to be apparent, even though it’s still early, this comet seems to be an intelligent entity. It seems to be deliberately travelling here to the Earth, suggesting an intelligence – which may or may not be malevolent. I am constantly monitoring its path, running calculations and simulations. Every time the result is the same, a collision course with the Earth. None of these simulations have included a trip around the Sun. Computer, please display Carpenter Choo projected path and final destination.”

At this point records show a 3DVR image popped up which showed the part of the Kuiper Belt from where the comet originated. Its journey over the past eleven days was shown, covering a distance of 98 million miles. A countdown display, showing the distance left to travel to the Earth was prominently displayed. While listening to the background noise in the meeting we could hear from the attendee reactions people felt very uneasy as realisation of a collision set it in.

Helios P Stephem – “Guys, I can see you’re all shocked. But as frightening as it seems, there are always options, you know.”

Unidentified Meeting delegate – “How do you mean, Helios?”

Helios P Stephem – “Well, currently we don’t have enough facts or evidence to predict what this thing will do. One thing is sure though, it has changed the world forever. We have to prepare for each of the scenarios we have discussed. In particular, what do we do if it does continue straight to Earth and threaten all life? Are we to go the way of the dinosaurs?”

Juan Lopez – “But Helios, what can we do – realistically?”

Helios P Stephem – “Juan, I’m surprised at you. Have you not ever heard of Project (M)Earth? It’s a little thing I’ve been working on – forever! We’ve successfully completed phases 1 and 2. The third stage will be the culmination of all the research and hard work; the terraformation of Mars, creating a new world, (M)Earth. Think of it, a refuge for such potentially cataclysmic events, such as what we’re possibly experiencing now. Eric, what do you think?”

Eric Carpenter – “Well Helios, It’s eleven days into its journey and will be here in sixteen months. I’m sorry to say everyone, the longer we deliberate and debate, the less time we have. This comet is travelling 103 miles every second. Since this meeting started, it travelled 93,000 miles. It doesn’t stop for breaks, rest or sleep. It just continues to travel to Earth for reasons not known.”

Helios P Stephem – “Ladies and Gentlemen, if all else fails we have at our disposal the ability to terraform the surface of Mars. This will provide a sanctuary to a proportion of the population of Earth, assuming this thing is intentionally threatening our existence.”

Unidentified Meeting delegate – “Mr Stephem, assuming this contingency was agreed upon and invoked, how would the decision be made as to who was lucky enough to relocate to Mars….”

Helios P Stephem – “(M)Earth, it’s (M)Earth!”

Meeting Delegate – “Sorry, I Meant (M)Earth. It’s difficult to get used to that. What I was saying…”

Juan Lopez – “Don’t worry. We understand what you are saying. You must understand, here we have a potential threat approaching Earth and Helios is offering to provide a refuge for a proportion of the population. This has yet to be discussed, agreed and decided upon by JÖRD and the GN. Time is ticking. He concedes due to the physical size of Mars, not everyone will obtain automatic passage and those chosen will be key to the survival of the Human Race, should the worst fears occur.. How we choose which people are key is not yet known. We have never faced this type of emergency. I suspect the key personnel may be Doctors, scientists, artists, musicians and so on. There could possibly be a lottery type system in place for a percentage which will be up for grabs by individuals not fulfilling any of the categories required to rebuild the Human Race. We have to understand, not everyone has an automatic right to gain passage to (M)Earth. Just because an individual exists does not give them an automatic right to continue in that existence. This will need to be discussed with the GN and the rest of JÖRD. It is not for us to say who will and will not have passage to (M)Earth. Our job here is to examine the threat and make possible recommendations.”

Helios P Stephem – “Thanks Juan, well put. I agree. Eric, based on your readings and research, are you able to make any predictions on this comet and its intentions?”
(Thich Hanh Tu – We noticed at this point Stephem was much calmer after the last exchange.)

Eric Carpenter – “Well none yet, Helios. As you can see from the footage, it is following a path which places it on a collision course with Earth. Andy and I have looked through our footage to see if there could possibly be anything to give away its origin, or whether it could be part of something larger, or even part of a fleet of these things. Nothing.”

Helios P Stephem – “Thanks, Eric. Just to let everyone know Eric’s involvement, as he is the discoverer of the comet and due to his vast knowledge of that region of space, he will be reporting into me with updates and recommendations for possible actions to take against this comet. I would ask that all of you give him and Andy all the support they both need.”

The meeting continued and the main action point which was agreed was for Helios P Stephem to speak with the President of the GN (Global Nations), to discuss his plan to terraform Mars as a refuge for a proportion of Earth’s population if nothing can be done to stop the comet Carpenter Choo.

This threat  has caused much unrest, anxiety and fear globally. And this is the point where we began to sense there was more to this comet. We will research more and bring you the next stages of this threat heading towards Earth.

It isn’t following the normal path of such an object from that part of space and is heading straight towards out planet. Every day it travels 8.9 million miles closer to the Earth and the threat is now starting to focus attention around the world. Every minute counts and this object is travelling towards the Earth on a possible collision course which could wipe out a huge amount of life. As Buddhists we believe in the cycle of life, the constant birth, death and rebirth of the Earth, but this time does not seem right to us. These events in the heavens should not currently be taking place.

Countries and their GN representatives are making contingency plans, but where do they run and what do they do? Plans are being made by organisations, in particular JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises to send missions out to the object, investigate, try and change its direction and if all else fails destroy it. Destruction is not a preferred option as thousands of objects will result from a blast which will then continue on the object’s original route to Earth.

Signs of disturbance are now surfacing, neighbours turning against each other, families feeling the strain and social breakdown in some locations. Some global business and money markets are suffering while everyone looks to the heavens, only to see the reminders constantly streamed down to Earth by the SolAds, counting down the distance and displaying the time and distance travelled. Many people comment on SolAds now mainly displaying information relating to the object instead of their normal advertising. There is no escape from this threat and at this early time we feel during our investigations this is not quite right as there could still be time to deal with this threat. The speed of this object has caused huge surprise and discussion, especially in the scientific community. Travelling at just over 370,000 mph is usually unheard of for objects in space. This object’s speed is about 1,000 times greater than the average speed of asteroids or comets.

From our research we can see Eric Carpenter joined Stephem Enterprises on 1 October 2277. As the discoverers of the object, he and Andy Choo will work with JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises to investigate the object and to deal with its threat. Stephem and Carpenter both share an interest in space, in particular the existence of life, including intelligent beings. They both agree it’s very narrow-minded to believe Earth has the only advanced life in the Universe. Since the beginning of his business, Stephem made no secret of his ambition to terraform Mars. This seems to be the ideal opportunity to begin such a venture. But the need for a highly accelerated transformation will be called for if a mass evacuation is required as a result of a certain collision with the object.

Looking at records, which are very hard to obtain from a secure location such as Stephem Enterprises, we have seen Eric got straight to work engaging with all the people required to make sure this object is dealt with on its journey towards Earth. We have also seen Helios P Stephem met with President Dane, head of the GN and they discussed the options for this object and also alternatives for the Earth’s inhabitants. An intercept mission was discussed which would be launched from one of Stephem’s POLAR complexes.The details of what the mission will do once it reaches the object will need to be agreed with the GN. Stephem was also eager to put his case forward for the terraformation of Mars, especially after all the work which was done with Project (M)Earth. He felt Stephem Enterprises was in a strong position to hasten the work rate as well as the completion of the Herphomos to begin redeployment. It seems President Dane was not willing to be swayed into a hasty decision and reminded Stephem such drastic measures will need to be agreed at the GN. He also reminded Stephem although he is the richest person in the history of planet Earth, he is still required to follow the law. Stephem reluctantly agreed and President Dane, despite enforcing this could see the sense in Martian terraformation and agreed to present this option to the GN for discussion.

Further analysis of the object has been conducted and it is now confirmed as a comet, but only due to its composition as it is not following the behaviour of a standard comet. It is now called Comet Carpenter Choo and has been confirmed on a path direct for Earth, without the normal journey behind the Sun.

I sense at this time JÖRD, the GN, Stephem Enterprises, Eric Carpenter and Helios P Stephem are now starting to work together to take action against Comet Carpenter Choo. But going forward further events raised our suspicions and this is why we have decided to go back and find out what, if anything is going on. We will continue to investigate and update as we go progress.

Since the object left the Kuiper Belt and during the following week from 23 September 2277 we have discovered much occurred. This short time seems to be the beginning of events which started the world on the journey to its current place. Collectively the world accepted an object with the composition of a comet left that region in space, but then it seems confusion and fear began to set in.

Comets are generally catapulted out of the the Kuiper Belt or the more distant Oort Cloud either into deeper space or on a journey towards the centre of our Solar System. The journey they follow depends entirely on which side of the Belt or Cloud from which they emerge. Those which depart on the ‘inside’ edge begin a journey towards the centre of our Solar System and are generally comets.

This object left the ‘inside’ region of the Kuiper Belt and for the first few minutes seemed to follow the normal path which would take it towards, behind and then emerge from the Sun to journey back toward the inner rocky planets. Sometimes the gas giants in their respective orbits decide the fate of the comet. If gravity is strong enough from either, or both of the giants Jupiter and Saturn the comet is pulled in and meets its end. But if the pull is not strong enough the comets may collide with any of the inner three rocky planets.

Looking at the path on which this object began, it seemed the normal behaviour was followed, but as further analysis was performed by observers all around the world they could all see firstly the speed was too high, 370,000 mph and then as the minutes and hours passed it could be seen the object was on a direct collision course with Earth. It seemed the object completely missed out the journey to the Sun and back around into the inner three planets. The path was not made public during the first few hours and then it eventually leaked out. We are trying to discover why this was kept secret. It could be because not enough was known and divulging too much could have lead to mass hysteria. Whatever the reason, the world found out a body, possibly a comet was on a collision course with the Earth.

Some people have speculated the reason for the direct path was due to its initial speed. 370,000 mph is very fast for such an object. Also its size has caused panic as it’s about 10 miles wide and early estimations put it at 520 mega tonnes. Every day this object travels nearly 9 million miles closer to the Earth and its motives are not known. 

We found out Eric Carpenter agreed to work with JÖRD and Stephem Enterprises to investigate this fully and put together a plan to deal with the threat. This was not made public immediately which is something we will investigate.

Looking back much attention was generated worldwide as people were curious about an object discovered in the Kuiper Belt. From what we observed and were told by space experts and its discoverers, this object did not follow normal laws. We have found a synopsis / transcript of a NewReal interview aired on Monday, 24 September 2277 just over a week after the object’s discovery by Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo and a day after it began to move out of the Kuiper Belt on a path which was not yet known.

Studio – “We have now located Anthony John at JÖRD headquarters, based in Calgary, Canada. Anthony what can you tell us about this entity?”

Anthony John – “Thanks. Yes. From my conversations so far, it looks like an entity – that’s the only way to describe it, has emerged from the Kuiper Belt and seems to be heading inwards to the centre of our solar system at about 370,000 mph, which is quite fast for such an object. It was discovered by an astronomer called Eric Carpenter yesterday. As yet he has been unavailable for comment. I understand there is some concern over the fact that it seems this entity which, by its location can only be described as the beginnings of a comet was actually hiding in the Kuiper Belt.“ (nervous Laugh).

Studio  – “Anthony there will be viewers and listeners who are unfamiliar with deep space. Could you possibly fill us in with what this could mean?”

Anthony John – “Well, with me right now I have Dr Juan Lopez who is Head of Extra Terrestrial threats at JÖRD. He has been examining the footage for us and although he can’t divulge too much right now, he is at liberty to discuss any implications he can see for our Solar System. Dr Lopez, it’s very nice to meet you and thanks for sparing the time to speak to us at what is an undoubtedly a very busy time for you.”

Juan Lopez – “Thanks for inviting me on, Anthony. As you know this discovery came to light only last week. We were involved with analysis of the Sun and unusually high sunspot activity. This has an effect on satellite orbits, Earth based navigation devices and systems, our bases on the moon and even the SolAds we see daily. We were also performing a tricky manoeuvre; a gravitational transfer of one of our missions. It was then we received the transmission from Eric Carpenter. He sent us the coordinates and there it was, in the Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt exists between 30 and 50 AUs from the Sun. It contains many of the remnants from the formation of our solar system. The bodies are made mainly of ice and gasses such as carbon monoxide and when they leave the Kuiper Belt begin a journey towards the centre of our solar system. The Sun pulls them in and they pass behind it, at which point their outer layer begins to melt and they grow the distinctive tail, which points away from the Sun. Some comets are captured by the gravitational fields of Jupiter and Saturn, where they meet their demise, no longer posing a threat to life here on Earth. But the strange thing about this entity is its motion, it seems to have made calculated evasive manoeuvres. It has left the Kuiper Belt now and is travelling towards the centre of our solar system at about 370,000 mph which is very fast. So it now seems to be following normal behaviour except for the speed. But the external force which would catapult such a body from the Kuiper Belt did not seem to be present”

Anthony John – “What do you mean, Dr Lopez?”

Juan Lopez –  “Well, normally, the passage of one of the giants of our solar system; Saturn or Jupiter, would create ripples in the Kuiper Belt and if the conditions are right, a body would be thrown out. But we haven’t yet detected any such influences. It’s my duty, as Head of Extra Terrestrial Threats; although there is no evidence at all to suggest it’s a threat, to make discoveries such as this public knowledge.”

Anthony John – “Dr Lopez, it seems this is not what you would have expected for an object of this origin. In your opinion, what do you think could be going on here?”

Juan Lopez –  “Well, Anthony, as a scientist, I’m extremely excited. But as Head of Extra Terrestrial threats at JÖRD, I must investigate any potential threat to Earth and its inhabitants. I’m not saying there is a threat here, but the data I am analysing, which I cannot divulge causes a little concern. As events unfold we will keep you and the public informed.”

Anthony John –  “Well, there you have it. At this early stage it’s too early to speculate what this entity is, but for now, this is Anthony John, JÖRD headquarters in Calgary for NewsReal. We’ll keep you informed, now back to the studio”

Straight after this broadcast, we discovered a call was made to Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo. We have obtained a transcript of this too and have included it below.

Juan Lopez – “Eric, I want you to come and work for me. Andy can remain at Big Bear Mountain, but will be absorbed into our team; his job will be to maintain a watch on this entity”

Eric Carpenter – “This is a joke, isn’t it?”

Juan Lopez – “Absolutely not, Eric”

Eric Carpenter – “Juan, I would like you to explain why you think you need me after all these years.” (Eric was very mistrusting of JÖRD, especially after the way he was treated following his discovery earlier in his career, which turned out to be an error)

Juan Lopez – “Eric, I need to expand my team. This discovery you have made makes me nervous. I’ve been looking at its path. When I extrapolate it I become worried. If I apply the normal trajectory, the body should travel towards the Sun, swing around and make its way back out. Based on normal values, I would expect it to fly out into deep space and disappear. It may even encounter Saturn as it retreats.”

Eric Carpenter – “So, if that’s the case, why are you worried?”

Juan Lopez – “I wouldn’t be worried if that were the case, but I’ve gone over it again and again. This body is heading straight towards Earth! It seems to be making adjustments and correcting it flight path. Eric, it’s going to collide with Earth!”

Eric Carpenter – “Hang on, you think it’s moving straight towards the Earth and you didn’t say anything in the interview you just gave? Why not?”

Juan Lopez – “Eric, we have to be sure about this thing. It only started it’s journey yesterday. I can’t risk global pandemonium and hysteria – especially if it turns out to be completely harmless. You know what’s like to get something so important wrong. I saw how you were ripped apart by the media and the public. Thanks to you, I have learned that lesson.”

Andy Choo – “What would our involvement be?”

Juan Lopez – “Andy, we need both of your expertise. We could possibly be facing a threat with the most serious implications on our world. I have no idea what this thing is. You both discovered it and you’re experts in your fields. Also we share the common interest of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. It’s travelling at three hundred and seventy thousand miles per hour! In this short time I have seen Its speed and heading vary! This isn’t right. If my assumptions are correct and it continues on this path, it will be here in the next sixteen months. Come on, I need you both. We know how bored you get. We know about your games you play, pocket billiards” 

Eric Carpenter – “Asteroid Billiards!”

Juan Lopez – “Guys, you’ll be on one of the most important teams in the world. JÖRD will look after you in every aspect. You know how influential they are. You’ll be working with the latest technology. We’re having a conference next month at the Armstrong Centre, at the Tranquillity Base on the Moon. You’ll have your own POLAR Platform for the ascent. You’ll be on four times your current salaries. The world will listen to you. Guys, I need you both”

Eric Carpenter – “What do you think, Andy?”

Andy Choo – “I’m for it”

Eric Carpenter – “Me too. Ok Juan, we’re in”

Juan Lopez – “Thanks guys. Eric I’ll arrange your secondment to Stephem Enterprises in Burbank.”

Eric Carpenter – “Stephem Enterprises?”

Juan Lopez – “Yes. Is there a problem, Eric?”

Eric Carpenter – “Well I don’t see why I need to be there. I mean, if I’m working on your team….”

Juan Lopez – “Relax Eric. You’ll spend equal time with us and at Burbank. Your job will be to follow this thing every step of the way. We’ll need an analysis which shows the potential threat, along with your recommendations. Also, you’ll be doing a lot of PR work. It could be this thing disappears, or changes course, or just stops. Whatever it does we need someone with your expertise of the region of space it’s coming from along with your people skills. I saw you all those years back. You were good.”

So looking at the transmissions, hearing and reading the call and transcript, we can see all which was known was not fully made public. This is confirmed by the call which rook place soon after the NewReal report was aired. This could be because they still didn’t have all the information they required to make a proper assessment of the entity and any threat it could pose. Also it had just left the Kuiper Belt, so who could tell its next movements? We continued to investigate and as I process all we uncovered, I will update this journal.

From investigations so far, I have learned the human race is very ingenious and resourceful, but it pains me to see the very basic skills required for empathy, understanding and spiritual cooperation have eluded us, which is why we find ourselves on the very edge of self destruction.

We are now in the 2,280th year of our Lord Buddha, which will equal the year 2277 in the Gregorian calendar. We see the events started on 16 September 2277 and have progressed to this point almost a year ahead. I will relate to you a chronological account while filling in all the details we have found about the circumstances and people involved.

On 16 September 2277 two astronomers Andy Choo and Eric Carpenter were stationed at the Big Bear Observatory located on Big Bear Mountain in Old California. Their job was to map deep space to try and find anything ‘of interest’ such as life, new phenomena or threats. I don’t fully know why this was a necessary task as there is a lot of information, charts, pictures and data from earthbound equipment and space probes, near and far. 

It seems the job was very boring and at a very low level for astronomers. But Andy seemed to enjoy this role as he was determined to find extraterrestrial life. We have found Eric Carpenter’s assignment to this job was not by choice. He was once a respected astronomer, but a miscalculation on his part led to a worldwide announcement of a new planet in this solar system. His readings and calculations were flawed. There was no new planet and he endured years of ridicule from that point. From then on he was given less important assignments, which filled him with regret, desire for recognition and acceptance.

They were only allowed to use the telescopes and equipment at times when not in high demand and would find themselves working through the night. This led to long periods of boredom and to pass their time, they invented a game called Asteroid Billiards which they played using the the computers and equipment instead of performing the duties for which they were being paid. I don’t fully understand the game or how it was played. It seems it was played in the 3DVR area which was used to recreate 3 dimensional representations of any area of space. The game and technology will kindly be explained by one of my better abled brothers.

On late Sunday evening, or very early Monday morning on 16 September 2277, they froze one of their games as an object appeared somewhere slightly beyond the orbit of Neptune. This caused them great excitement and anxiety as it was an object which they could not explain. All elements in their game should have been identifiable as they were generated from realtime objects on and around 16 September 2277. They got straight to work trying to find its origins. When we looked at the data and discussed it amongst ourselves, it didn’t seem too unusual. The region of space seemed to be the Kuiper Belt, an area of extreme motion and debris. Countless objects are found there and are leftover from the original beginning of this solar system. They move randomly and collide with each other. Occasionally an object leaves the area and sets off on its own journey away from the Kuiper Belt or begin a journey towards our Sun.

The object they discovered did not follow the predicted random behaviour and was never identified or previously indexed. We accessed the widely available data and could see it was completely still and when another of its neighbours approached on a collision path, it moved out of the way. This is what caught Eric and and Andy’s attention. Even we as monks, untrained in space object behaviour could see this was not the right way to act. Using all we found we pieced together the data and facts. We also spoke among ourselves especially with those of us who visited the God Realm. This object did not and still does not make sense or follow accepted physical laws. We followed developments over the next week and this is what I will update shortly

My last entry described the discovery of something in the heavens which did not seem to belong. The two astronomers Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo made their first sighting on 16 September 2277 and after much discussion decided they would report it to JÖRD, the global agency responsible for all matters related to space, its exploration and commercialisation. 

The report was made and soon became global knowledge, a source of deep curiosity, discussion and speculation. A newly discovered body in this area space does not seem strange. Many types of objects litter the area where this object was found, the Kuiper Belt as it’s like a storage area for all the leftover and unused items from the creation of our Solar System. 

Eric and Andy explained objects in the Kuiper belt are constantly moving, crashing, breaking, changing direction and sometimes leaving the Belt. The strange thing about this object was its stillness, its ability to change direction and move out of the way of other oncoming objects and most surprisingly its skill to seemingly hide behind other objects. These behaviours drew their attention to it. Faced with these strange behaviours, Eric and Andy decided to make a report to JÖRD.

Soon after the report was filed in the early hours of 16 September 2277 an official release was made by JÖRD:

Joint Outerspace Redeployment Delegation report sighting by Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo of Station 4, Big Bear Mountain Observatory of an unknown Kuiper Belt Object (KBO). Behaviour of this object does not follow normal behaviour and will require further investigation. 

JÖRD will work in conjunction with all reporting parties and bring further updates.

This announcement was made in the early hours and at the time did not attract much attention. However as the world began to rise and greet a new day, it attracted much more interest and speculation. An object which can avoid others and move at free will was certainly a talking point.

Later in the morning the news was broken everywhere by the most recognised face of news in the west. Anthony John, the very well known reporter for the global news network NewsReal. This was a story befitting his celebrity status in global journalism. Many tuned in and watched as they prepared for the day ahead; mothers preparing children for school, workers in the big cities, shop assistants, doctors, nurses, politicians, students, bakers. Everyone was captured by this entity but the questions they had could not be answered. What was it? Where did it come from? Does it have a reason? Will it do anything or disappear as quickly as it appeared?

As the days went on people interested in this object used their technology to connect to the Big Bear observatory computers to run tests and programmes in the hope of being the first to crack the mystery of its make up and purpose of being. After all, everything exists for a reason. Days passed as people around the world, Big Bear Observatory and JÖRD watched with interest and expectation, but nothing happened and no great discoveries were made. Most people agreed the object was made of ice, various metals, rock, elements and compounds. Interest died off and people went back to daily lives knowing this body remained in an area of space and avoided collisions. That’s all it seemed to do. A widely accepted theory was the avoidance was because of a high level of ferro magnetic material such as iron. Other objects on approach would cause it to act like a giant magnet repelling similar poles. But this theory had its doubters who commented on how all objects which approached it seemed to have the same polarity, or non magnetic materials still made it move. Statistically this could not be and a collision should have occurred. After a few days passed since it’s discovery interest was lost

Sunday, 23 September 2277

What happened on this day shook the world. Everybody woke to the shocking news. The object which seemed be in a small area of space in the Kuiper Belt started to move away from its small space and journeyed out of the Kuiper Belt. It was the sudden movement without interaction or collision from any other object which surprised everyone. The speed increased to about 300,000mph which it has kept.

The world watched closely to see how its path progressed. Where was it heading?

Looking at the records of that night, we can see their problem. If Eric and Andy were to report this new sighting they would have to do so to JÖRD, the current global space agency which oversees such matters, as well as being involved in space exploration and colonisation. An international consortium, it pulls expertise from all the nations which it comprises including valuable skills such as lunar flight, interplanetary travel and long spaceflight endurance techniques. It also includes many environmental organisations who aim to reverse deadly environmental chain reactions started in previous centuries.

Unfortunately, Eric had already encountered JÖRD when he reported what he thought was a new planet 20 years ago. It was JÖRD who made his life very difficult after his ‘discovery’.

We captured some of the conversation of this new sighting and have included it below:

“I can’t make the same mistake twice, Andy. I’ll be slaughtered.” 

“Eric, we’ve both seen this. Our initial analysis concludes the possibility of an intelligent extra terrestrial entity. Who knows what its possible motives could be? It’s hiding behind things. It’s performing evasive manoeuvres to possibly ensure its survival. Survival for what?”

“Andy, I really appreciate your support, but you have no idea what I had to endure twenty years ago. The humiliation was crushing. We don’t know what this is. We get fed the dregs of images and data. This could be a complete anomaly. The data integrity could be so inferior we’re looking at reflections of other entities such as space stations or other planets whose images have sufficiently refracted their images to that part of space.

If we get this wrong we’ll both be finished, JÖRD will ensure that. I’m older and wiser. I can survive. You’ll be crucified. I can’t let that happen” 

“Eric, the data is sound. We’ve checked it”

“How can we be sure Peggy has interpreted and represented her findings accurately?”

“If I may interject gentlemen” – the computer

Peggy is a super computer, whose neural networks allowed her to follow and contribute to a conversation. 

“I have analysed and processed the data. The image representation is accurate to 99.99996%. The spectral analysis which has enabled its composition to be ascertained is accurate to within 4%. I would speculate, gentlemen we are indeed dealing with a tangible entity. As for its ability to display intelligence, I can offer no credible theory based on the data analysis. It would be pure speculation on my part.”

Andy spoke up “Peggy, in your opinion, should this discovery be reported?”

“Based on the latest protocols held in my memory, I would suggest it remiss of you both not to report it. Please also remember, this is JÖRD equipment and every action has been recorded and can be traced to you both. Although the daily usage downloads are not monitored avidly, if it transpires this is an important discovery, you will both be required to supply explanations. My databanks will be probed for any information I can supply, and eventually your conversation will be discovered.”

Andy and Eric looked at each other. They knew what had to be done. 

“Peggy open JÖRD communication channel” Eric ordered.

The computer opened a channel via 3DVR. It Seems Eric and the JÖRD official, Sol are acquainted.

“What?” the mission controller, Sol demanded. “Oh it’s you Eric.” His tone softened. “we’re in the middle of a gravitational transfer here on one of our missions. This better be important. You’re not complaining about your assignment on Big Bear again are you?”

“Hi Sol. Look, I hate to disturb you but I think there could be something you may wish to investigate. To be honest Sol, me and Andy aren’t sure what it is. It displays a level of intelligence which doesn’t seem right. Here are the coordinates.”

Watching and listening to the conversation, we could see the JÖRD official was very surprised as he watched the time-lapse recorded 3D image. He could see a seemingly intelligent entity dodging objects in the Kuiper Belt, but remaining within what looked like a volume of space; while other Kuiper Belt objects moved randomly.

“Eric, are sure of your readings and data?” 

“Sol, we’re sure as we can be that thing is out there. We don’t know why it’s there, or what it’s doing. We have no benchmark to explain what it is or whether its movement is correct. There’s been nothing like this before. It’s the first time anything like this has been seen.”

“You need to follow protocol. Do you wish to report a sighting?” 

“Sol, you know what happened before. You were there.”

“I know Eric; but we have better technology now. I’m looking at this thing right now. All your data will back you up. I repeat, Big Bear Station 4, would you like to report a sighting?”

“Yes. Eric Carpenter and Andy Choo of Big Bear Station 4 would like to report a sighting and request JÖRD assistance with investigation.”

We can see this report starts off everything which has occurred. We will continue our investigations and update as we follow its progress.
